LADAKH - "Land of the Lamas"
Ladakh - occupies the western end of the Tibetan plateau and is often
referred to as 'Little Tibet Indeed, its Buddhist people are of Tibetan origin
and many still wear the traditional robes, stove pipe hats and curious felt
boots with turned-up toes.
After the demise of the first Tibetan empire, Tibet was divided among three
brothers in 1020. One of them moved to Ladakh and founded the first royal
dynasty there. When Tibetan Buddhism in the eastern neighboring kingdom of Guge
experienced a new high point, this rejuvenation affected Ladakh. Its temple
monasteries and the manner in which religion sharply pervaded the people's way
of life gave clear evidence of this. In many cases, old shrines of the earlier
Bon religion were transformed into Buddhist monasteries.

Fly Leh - Delhi, Agra.
Transfer to Leh airport for another breathtaking mountain flight back to Delhi.
Arrive in Delhi and drive to Agra (5hrs) to visit the magnificent Taj Mahal.
The Tāj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra on the western bank of the
Yamuna river 204 kilometers south of Delhi, the capital of India. The Mughal
Emperor Shāh Jahān commissioned it as a mausoleum for his favourite
wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction began in 1632 and was completed in 1648. Some
dispute surrounds the question of who designed the Taj; it is clear a team of
designers and craftsmen were responsible for the design, with Ustad Isa
considered the most likely candidate as the principal designer.
The Taj Mahal (sometimes called "the Taj") is generally considered the finest
example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Persian and
Indian. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar part of the
monument, the Taj Mahal is actually an integrated complex of structures. It was
listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 when it was described as a
"universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage".

Agra - Jaipur
Morning drive to Jaipur (221 kms), en route visit Fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur
Sikri the deserted, red sandstone city that was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar
as his capital and palace in the 16th century.
Fatehpur Sikri Fatehpur Sikri - a magnificent new city rose on the craggy hills
40 kms from Agra. And for 16 short but memorable years it was the wonder of
travelers from all over the world. Today, Fatehpur Sikri is a deserted, phantom
city. But the inner citadel is immaculately preserved. Its walls, palaces,
baths, royal mint, courts and gardens still stand in splendid homage to a great
visionary and builder. The heart of the palace complex however, is very much
alive. For at the tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti, a white marble canopy set in
the great courtyard of the Royal Mosque, pilgrims still come in thousands
to offer flowers, tie a thread in the latticed screens, and to pray for the
gift of son. Fatehpur Sikri is an epic in red sandstone. A city of yeasteryear,
today lost in the mists of time.
